More than 2,100 people registered for the 4th Annual Addison Kelly Butterfly 5K, making this our largest event yet and a truly remarkable milestone for our community. Since our inaugural event just four years ago, participation has more than doubled, demonstrating the growing commitment of our island to supporting mental health awareness, suicide prevention and one another. It was an unforgettable morning filled with love, remembrance, connection and hope.
Participants embraced the butterfly theme in the most wonderful way, adorning butterfly wings, colourful costumes, face paint and butterfly tattoos. The sea of butterflies that filled the course created a truly magical atmosphere and a beautiful tribute to Addison. Addi loved butterflies, and seeing thousands of people come together to celebrate her life and legacy in this way was incredibly special.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, the event raised more than $60,000 for the annual scholarship fund, helping to continue Addison’s legacy of kindness, compassion and support for others.
This year, the Memorial Wall once again stood at the event’s start/finish line to remember, honour, and celebrate the lives of those lost to suicide while helping to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health. Submissions were accepted from individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide in the Cayman Islands, as well as residents who have lost someone outside of Cayman.
